Attack of the SCARY DORA 2

So Many of my friends have been asking me - WHERE"S DORA.

She sat Sarai's bedroom (and sometimes the family room) for a long time - frankly our house is WAY too small for that huge doll.

So with Hanna's impending surprize party on the horizon, we had to take action.

I had wardrobe, and Sarai took make-up. Frankly, we made a really good team.

I grabbed an old shirt of Thijs' and began to rip it Flashdance style (it was heart breaking to rip up a DUTCH PRIDE t-shirt) I used the extra material to make faux leg warmers

Sarai got out a permanant marker and created eyelashes and liner. She used a deep red fingernail polish on her lips and nails. I think adding the eyelashes made her less scary.

We threw her in my van to hide her and decided we would steal someone's keys and sneak dora into a car.

Donna showed up first.

Slyly I asked her where she parked because parking is soooo bad on our streets.

She told me and I quietly grabbed her keys while she was slaving away.

Terry came next and he and thijs snuck outside with the keys and placed Dora in Donna's car.

Donna would have been COMPLETELY freaked out but Tek followed her to her car to see her reaction and she realized something was up.

Here are the pictures. (Missing the picture of sarai and dora because we haven't down loaded it yet)

I love SAN FRANCISCO

There has been a lot of news about San Francisco today but admist all of the torch controversy I am sure you didn't hear that I saw the following this week.

1.  A completely "gangsta" young man- saggy pants-basketball shirt and baseball hat.  Wasn't hanging out in the ghetto but doing Tai Chi by himself near Lake Merced

2. A woman in her mid to late 60s with hair that the B-52s would envy.  It must have been at least 2 feet in the air.  How does she do it?

3.  a 6 1/2 foot tree in a pot escorted onto the Muni train that I was riding home.  The guy just got on the train like it was no big deal to bring a small tree onto the most crowded transit line in san francisco

Attack of the SCARY DORA

Without going into a lot of detail.  A full size Dora the Explorer ended up in my van.

This doll is not only HUGE it is SCARY.  It is about 3 1/2 tall and has a head the size of TWO basketballs.  Also when you touch her hand she speaks to you.

I can't imagine anyone giving this doll to a young child but it makes a great practical joke.

Trying to figure out what to do with the doll, we decided we would make it into a youth group game.

Someone starts with the doll and has to sneak it into another member's area without them knowing about it.

This is difficult because living in the city the areas of our youth group is very small and hard to sneak into.

Thijs had the easiest task.

We all agreed that our newest youth group member - Sarai Welch should get the doll first so all he had to do was sneak it into her bed because she lives with us.

Thijs was able to sneak it in during the middle of the day when Sarai was helping with day camp.

We almost wet our pants when she screamed last night at around 9:30 when she crawled into bed.

Now, she has to sneak the dora into someone else's area.

Here are the rules of the game.

  1. You can not sneak the doll into your same house (first time was the exception)
  2. You have to buy a new outfit for the scary doll before you pass it on
  3. You have to redo the doll's hair before it goes to anyone else
  4. You may receive help from any other member of the youth group
  5. The person you are passing it to has to be surprized by it, or it doesn't count
  6. Pictures of the passee and the passer must be taken with doll for documentation purposes

Here are the first set of pictures

DAY CAMP IS OVER

Sooooo thankful that Daycamp is over.

I love my kids and I love hanging out with them but I am sooo tired.

I missed day camp on monday because I was still in AZ

Tuesday I got to the corps with only 3 hours of sleep but was super thankful that we had an over abundance of help from CSM becuase between being tired and sick from bad chicken at Cracker Barrell the night before - I went home and slept from 11 am - 5 pm

Wednesday I had a great art project planned but missed classes because I had to take Anuj Kumar to the hospital to get stiches in his forehead

Thursday we had a BBQ at Chrissy field which was awesome but then had to deal with a huge meltdown From Daragh who was comeplete convinced his finger was broken and wanted to take the van home.  Finally got him to leave Chrissy Field 15 minutes after everyone else left

Friday we were all tired and lazy without a lot of kids so we combined classes.  Would have been an easy day but took the teens to the Giants-As game and sat in the pouring FREEZING rain and didn't get home until 11 pm

Saturday helped with bowling for the first time in a long time and then went home and rested

Sunday was the corps and then the laundrymat and then target.

Today we went to the zoo.  Had fun but had a completely squirmy group.  My day mostly went like this;

"Jen jen jen jen jen jen jen jen jen jen when are we going to see the tigers?"

"Where are the tigers?"

"Are we going to the tigers yet"

"Can we see the tigers now?"

"How come the tiger is sleeping"

"Where is the tiger that killed the guy"

"Is that the only tiger there is?"

"Can we see the black rhino now?"

"Where's the black rhino?"

"How come the black rhino is not black?"

And that is just 2 minutes of dialouge.  It was like that all day today.

The worst part is that I smell like eucalyptus trees because the zoo is covered in eucalyptus trees and while in small quantities this scent is nice - in big quantities you smell like Cat litter.  Arrrggg

I know it seems like I am complaining but I just think my life is sooo funny.

Updates galore.

1)  Friday when I picked up Thijs he told me that his teacher talked to him about being on the BLACK STUDENT UNION HONOR ROLL.  Yes - you read that right; the black student union honor roll.  Since moving to San Francisco Thijs has made the grades to be on the honor roll but he has never been allowed to participate in any of the activities associated with the honor.   In San Francisco they do special events for the Latino honor roll and the Asian honor roll and the Black student union honor roll but if you don't fit in those catagories they don't do anything.

On Friday Thijs teacher came to him and said that they want to do something for the 3 white kids in his school (who are all on the honor roll) but they weren't sure if should create a european student union honor or just let them join with one of the groups that already exist.  Thijs said he was fine with just being part of another group.  soooooo  he is part of the BLACK STUDENT UNION HONOR ROLL.  Its going to look great on his college applications.

2)  Youth Councils was this weekend.  We had soo much fun.  Tenderloin Central had 19 delegates all together.  We performed with our bucket brigade.  Our boys WON the basketball tournament and the girls came in a close second in the volleyball tournament.  God really was moving and our youth group did a lot of thinking and good commitments were made.  I am completely exhausted but I am glad we were all so blessed

3)  Had a pretty rough week last week and the Poscillicos (our DCs) heard about it.  So I got a phone call saying they wanted to take me to lunch.  Not only did we have some of the greatest pizza I have ever had but it was awesome to be encouraged like that.
